"Nez Perce War Pony" by Gregory Perillo

To find out about this Pony and the Tribe he belonged to, do a search on Nez Perce War

"Knowing that it was very difficult to fire from horseback with accuracy, the Nez Perce rarely attempted to do so. Trimble stated that, contrary to popular belief, the Indian always dismounted to fire, unless his purpose was to stampede stock. Sergeant McCarthy described one technique that the Nez Perce employed in a reminiscence. "When a warrior wanted to fire," he explained, "he rolled off the pony to the ground, took deliberate aim, and crawled on again--the pony remaining quiet and patient during the firing, lying by the roadside." Man and beast were compatible and together they made a splendid fighting unit!"

The "Nez Perce War Pony" is the second limited edition collector plate in the Vague Shadows Ltd. "War Ponies" series.  The original art work for the plate was commissioned expressly for this series and was completed in July 1982.  "Nez Perce War Pony" is strictly limited to 7.500 consecutively numbered pieces.  There will be no additional plates ever produced.

"Navajo Nanny" by Penni Anne Cross

"Sheep to us mean life, for this animal gives us many things. Their meat gives us food, their wool gives us clothes, blankets and other cloth, and their skins give us warm blankets and pads to sleep on. Without this animal our lives would be poor.

Sheep must be cared for. They can't take care of themselves. In times past, wolves, coyotes, mountain lions and bear would have eaten them. Sheep often spend their summers in the low lands, such as in the Canyon De Chelle. In the winter months they are moved up on the rim of the canyon. In the spring of the year the sheep are sheared of their wool. The wool is then given to the women for washing, carding, spinning, dyeing and weaving."
